While Networks and Computers are closely related there is a distinct difference. Computer networks not only involve the hardware such as routers, switches, hubs, wires, and network cards, they also include the overall design or schema.

The creation of a PC network can be very simple such as the network in my own home:

A more complex network might include dedicated servers for Email, Print Servers, or NAT devices to connect to the Internet or other portions of a larger WAN.

I have worked with several people (friends, family, clients) to get their systems connected both on and off the Internet. Windows XP does a great job in this respect but more often than not clients need extended capabilities. My most often request is to setup LANs for single point Internet connections or web cam services.
